The morning of day 2 started off with a tour round Taipei City...
We visited the famous Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall which is now known as the Taiwan Democracy Hall....
We were suppose to visit the President House...
but we didn't get to because on Wednesday (12 Nov), prosecutors' request to detain the former president, Chen Shui-Bian was finally approved by the Taipei District Court...
He is accused of embezzling about NT$15 million ($683,600) while in office, money laundering, accepting bribes and forging documents...
It was pretty intense in Taiwan, there were demonstrations and roads around the President House were closed...
So...we proceeded to the National Palace Musuem...
which houses the largest collections of ancient Chinese art treasure...
things like the Empress Dowager's nail-protectors, the thing she used to make her pearl powder...etc etc...
Cameras are not allowed in the musuem...sorry...no pics to share... =p
The next stop would be the Martyrs Shrine...

so we decided to drop by when we're returning to Taipei on the last few days of the tour...
And so...we began our journey towards HuaLien County...
a place facing the immense Pacific Ocean in the east and leaning against the grand Central Mountain Range in the west...
it is very famous for its beautiful scenery...hot springs and the famous Amei Aboriginal tribe...
En route from Taipei to HuaLien is Yeliu 野柳 and Chiufen 九份...
Yeliu is famous for the curious shapes carved by sea erosion...
Several rock formations have been named for their shapes...
The most well-known of these is the "Queen's head"...
These shapes can be viewed at the YehLiu Geopark...
pPsst...!! old aunty n old uncle holding hands...aren't they just so sweet... i've been noticing them..everywhere they go..they hold hands...throughout the tour....

After YehLiu...it was ChiuFen...
Chiufen features an old street that is full of local snack vendors and special accessory stores...
ChiuFen means 9 portions... The name comes from a legend where nine families used to live in this village...
Before the development of Chiufen, there was a lack of transportation that made trips to the market inconvenient...
Therefore, whenever one family goes grocery shopping at the market, what they bought would be divided it into nine pieces for each of the families...
After satisfying our taste buds...
HuaLien...here we come!!!
We reached HuaLien just in time for the cultural show by tribal guys & girls from the famous Amei Aboriginal tribe...
if you know the famous taiwanese singer Zhang Hui Mei (Ah Mei)...she is from this tribe as well...
This is how the groom carries their bride during their wedding....
